This test allows to evaluate the permeability coefficient of low hydraulic conductivity soils (plastic clays), its main advantage is that avoids short circuiting along side walls of the sample by comparison to a hard wall permeameter. It also allows to reach full saturation in relatively short time and this can be checked using Skempton’s B parameter in our triaxial digital cell. We perform this test under British Standard BS 1377 6 1990

This test is used routinely for determination of shear strength parameters. Shear strength mobilization occurs at the horizontal plane by applying a stroke control force (derived from an electrical engine) and on which the normal stress can be controlled by the operator within a range depending on the type of equipment.

Atterberg limits for plasticity determination of fine soils.

The liquid limit is the moisture content below which the soil behaves as a plastic material, and above it is almost a viscous fluid. The plastic limit is the moisture content below witch the soil is non-plastic.

The coefficient of permeability is a constant of proportionality relating to the ease with which a fluid passes through a porous medium, where the fluid is water and the porous medium is the mass of soil. A widely used permeameter is the standard compaction permeameter for determining the permeability of compacted specimens, as for dam cores, levees, etc. Our equipment allows values of hydraulic gradients up to 15 particularly useful for highly compacted soils.

The grain-size analysis determines the relative proportions of the different grain sizes that make up a given soil mass. A set of (serial) sieves made of woven wire with rectangular openings ranging in size is used with a vibrant table.

Water content determination is a routine laboratory test to determine the amount of water present in a quantity of soil in terms of its dry weight.

The objective of this test is to determine the granular composition of the finer percentage of soil screening, measuring the density of soil in suspension. The main objective of this analysis is to obtain the percentage of clay that passes the sieve N° 200 in the mechanical grain sized analysis.

This test is used to determine the average grams of soil; this value is necessary to compute the void of ratio of soil, is also used in the hydrometer analysis and it is useful to predict the unit weight of a soil . The specific gravity of the soil grains will always be larger than the bulk specific gravity based on inclusion of the soil voids.
